AvoIntel™: The Value of Avocados on the Menu
In the peak of summer restaurant season, our beloved avocado shoppers are dining out! So, this month’s AvoIntel™ is looking at how our World’s Finest Avocados™ are performing in the foodservice setting.
We surveyed 550 avocado shoppers who purchased avocados at least twice in the last three months. The result? 100% of respondents who buy avocados at retail also order avocados in restaurants!1 So, how are they ordering? Let’s find out.
What Are the Most Popular Avocado Dishes?
1 It’s no surprise that guacamole (75.5%) and Mexican dishes (71.8%) remain the top two consumer favorites. Following these classics are salads (62.0%), sandwiches (56.2%), and the ever-trendy avocado toast (48.1%).
When are consumers ordering avocados? 1 All day long – lunch (71.8%) and dinner (71.0%) are the most popular, but breakfast (56.7%) and snacks (39.4%) are also strong occasions.
What’s so Appealing about the Avocado? 1 The reasons diners love avocados are clear: 83% enjoy them for their taste, 65.5% for their health benefits, and 34.5% believe avocados add value to a dish.
What Value Do Avocados Bring to Menus? 1 An overwhelming majority (97.2%) of avocado consumers are willing to pay more for avocados on dishes. While how much more ranges, a significant two-thirds are willing to pay at least $2 or more!
What Does this Data Mean for Foodservice? Avocados are an extremely versatile ingredient with significant demand, indicating opportunities for menu innovation across all meal occasions. By offering more avocado options, foodservice operators can bring added value to their diners and increase customer satisfaction. Whether offering avocados as an add-on or incorporating them across more of the menu, diners want avocados and they are willing to pay more for them!
