Mission Appoints Director of Agronomy
OXNARD, Calif. – February 15, 2022 – Mission Produce, Inc. (NASDAQ:AVO) (“Mission” or the “Company”), the world leader in distributing fresh Hass avocados, with additional offerings in mangos, today announced the appointment of Dr. Daniel Klittich as Director of Agronomy, a newly created role to further strengthen Mission’s global network of growing partners.
As an expert in avocado crop production, Klittich will serve as a professional resource to Mission’s grower base. His responsibilities will include educating on recommended farming practices that have proven to produce higher yields of avocados per tree and potentially increase ranch profitability. In addition to in-person visits, Klittich will manage grower continuing education, presentations and other helpful resources.
“At Mission, a key element of our strategy is to help growers increase yields, which is beneficial to both Mission’s and the growers’ bottom line,” said Keith Barnard, Senior Vice President of Sourcing and Sales. “We are willing to provide world-class technical support, which has proven to triple the yields of growers currently in the program. Adding Danny to the team allows us to expand this service to even more growers in our network and build deeper connections on the field level.”
Mission’s grower education program is a complimentary service to loyal Mission growers and provides actionable information on irrigation scheduling, soil management, fertilization, pruning, and more.
“Producing high yields of avocados is an area for great science. I have been studying agronomy for 15 years professionally and avocado production specifically for more than six years now, so I’m excited to share my knowledge with Mission’s increasing grower base,” shared Klittich. “I joined Mission because I respect their commitment to grower support and the new techniques they bring to the world of avocado production.”
Klittich graduated with a Ph.D. in Entomology and Nematology from the University of California, Davis. Prior to joining Mission, Klittich worked as an agronomist at a fertilizer company, using his experience in academic research, production agriculture, pesticide research, fertility consulting and research contracting. Klittich is also credentialed with his Pest Control Advisor (PCA) certification and Qualified Applicators License.
“We have our growers’ best interests in mind. We wanted to provide an expert resource to our network and continue to improve our own leading farming techniques. Danny is a true scholar in this area and I look forward to the added level of support we can bring our loyal growers,” added Barnard.
